Painted Kitchen cupboards

Welcome to J Pointon Painter and Decorator in Sandbach, I would like to share with you my knowledge, experience and a few sample images  from one of my recent completed projects.     Most of us consider our Kitchen as the Hub 0f the house, take a look around...... has the doors become a little tired around the edges, is there marks around the handles ? Have you considered having your Kitchen cabinets and doors painted, this is the exact thoughts of one of my recent customers. I recommended that they could have the doors painted with a high quality eggshell finish (colour of there choice).  "It's look really easy on the TV, a couple of coats of paint here and there" they said....... in my opinion - without a complete and correct step by step program, that wouldn't last for very long.     So let me take the hassle out of it for you, for a very high quality job at a fraction of the cost of replacing the doors, I would remove any old furniture, remove any surface imperfections by smoothing and filling, sanding all surfaces to form a good key ready for the first coat of Primer to adhere, this is then followed by one coat of undercoat and two coats of topcoat de-nibbing between coats, probably a simple tough Eggshell finish as this is more than suitable for a Kitchen.  Colour would be of your own personal choice either from Farrow and Ball, Johnstones, Little Greene or  Dulux just to name a few. To complete the final step, new door furniture would compliment the expertly painted finish, you would be the envy of all your friends as they think that you have had a complete NEW kitchen. Why wait - give me a call or [...]

DECORATING IDEAS

As you can imagine there are various ways to decorate your home. How you use the spectrum of colours available is completely down to you, your personal preference and your preferred feel for the room. There are no exact rules but here are some examples of the most current popular ways of decorating. If you require a little helping hand please feel free to give me a call or drop me an email. Choose White woodwork and coloured walls. In my experience the most traditional way to decorate rooms is to use a neutral colour on the walls and white gloss / eggshell on woodwork, white on the ceilings. This is a very clean, crisp look. To soften the contrast, you don’t necessary need to choice a brilliant white, select a white which is more complimentary to the colour on the walls; this will make the contrast more gradual than a crisp sharp look.  Go for a bold feature wall. Having a striking feature wall creates the WOW factor; as soon as someone walks into the room you want the decor to stop them in their tracks. Paint the remaining walls in a neutral colour to compliment to main feature wall or alternatively choose striking floral or patterned wallpaper. Lighter walls and darker woodwork A good way to create light and space is to use the lightest colour on the wall areas and the darker colour on the woodwork. This works particularly well if you are using a neutral colour scheme. By using a dark colour on the woodwork not only makes the walls appear lighter in contrast, it also creates a strong contemporary look making everything feel brighter and fresher. One colour used [...]

Choose the right colour trends….

When you look at a colour swatch, it may sound a little mad, but by holding it up against the wall your about to have painted can actually fool your eyes into seeing the colour swatch at a different tone and shade. My tip - is to paint a couple of white piece's of A4 size paper with at least two coats of the tester pot paint then hold the piece of paper against the fabrics and soft furnishing in the room instead, you will be amazed how much more accurate and true the colour will actually look. Try the following websites for a combination of paint finishes and colours. http://dulux.trade-decorating.co.uk/colours/index.jsp http://www.leyland-paints.co.uk/leylandtrade_colour.asp

Latest wallpaper trends…..

Whether you live in an old period style house or a new modern house, wallpapers will work, for the best result and impact, try and choose a design that suits the scale of the house. i.e. small pattern papers on a old style period house with high ceilings could look lost, where as a large pattern paper on a modern style house with lower ceilings could overwhelm the room. Have you thought of a feature wall with a wallcovering and picking out a colour from the design and having the remaining walls painted in that colour, then accessorise with fabrics of the same tone. For older period properties then my advice would be to look at the heritage and period colours, places like Laura Ashley, B&Q, Homebase etc. If you follow the links below for more ideas. http://www.lauraashley.com/home-furnishings/wallpaper/icat/hfwallpapers/ http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/wallpaper-wall-stickers/wallpaper http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HomebaseStaticPageSecondLevel?langId=110&storeId=10151&includeName=HBCreateTheLook/inspiration-trends.html&int_cmp=dropdown
